Hay Feeders

WW does not recommend the use of hay feeders. However if you are going to use one, aim for one that is low and provides easy access to lots and lots of hay.

You don't want your rabbit to have to work hard for its hay. It needs to be accessible to allow for comfortable grazing.

A word of caution - be wary of suspending wire baskets or feeders with wire fronts or grids above a litter tray.

If the gaps are too wide your rabbit can get its head caught between them. If the gaps are too small they restrict access to the hay. If your rabbit jumps into the basket they may get a leg caught in the gaps which can lead to serious injury.

If you want to consider using a hay feeder please read this article from the RWAF first so that you understand the pros as well as the cons -

Hay Racks: A helpful feeding tool or a recipe for disaster?

Here are some ideas that have been shared with us. Note that the rabbits in these photos are not having to reach up to access their hay because the none of hay feeders aren’t suspended above their heads.
