If you are a New Zealand Veterinary clinic that confidently treats rabbits and you are not included here, please contact Westley’s World via the button below so that we can discuss including you on this list.

Alternatively, you can participate in our survey by clicking the link below -

PLEASE NOTE - Clinics in Green are reported to follow best practice protocols for Desexing only.

Beyond that, remember that the level of experience with complex issues varies hugely between clinics.

As an owner you must advocate for your rabbit and ask questions in regard to confirming how experienced a vet is, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes.

For all other clinics please check their treatment, surgical and vaccination protocols as discussed in the the following files:

Desexing, Stasis, Pain

If the vet you are consulting is not rabbit savvy you can direct them to the resources on the website including the

Veterinary and Vet Nurse CPD Page

This vet list is compiled from clinic client experience reports and by direct contact with clinics.

It is in no way WW's personal opinion.

The list is updated regularly as reports and survey responses come to hand.

If you have an experience you would like to share please email us via the contact button below.

We strongly urge you to ask questions and don't assume every vet at any given clinic has rabbit knowledge.
Vets move to different clinics so the information on this list may not be relevant for that clinic anymore.
Please let us know if you find this to be the case.

Please check with the clinic regarding vaccinations offered, protocols for desexing including pain relief, and treatment for stasis etc.

PAIN RELIEF
Your rabbit should be administered pain medication at the time of surgery and also be sent home with 3-4 days (neuter) and 4-5 days (spey) pain medication to be administered 12 hourly.

Rabbits metabolise medications faster than cats and dogs so the commonly used ‘48 hour pain jab’ will not be sufficient for your rabbit and it may need more pain relief as soon as 12 hours after surgery.

Please read the
Desexing file THOROUGHLY so that you know what the correct dose and interval for pain relief is for your rabbit to take home after their desex.

Ask for this in writing from the clinic when you book in so that if it is later refused you can refer them to the agreement.
